The name of Chevalier Michel Lynch, a passionate winegrower, owner of the Bages estate and founder of the current Château Lynch-Bages is an integral part of the history of the great wines of Bordeaux. Michel Lynch was born in 1754 and devoted his life to improving the wines on his property, the Lynch-Bages estate. A knowledgeable winegrower, he was one of the main forces in the progress made in the wine sector at the end of the 18th century. He was responsible for the first trials of de-stemming (separating the stalk and the berries) before fermentation, a method that was to become widespread during the 19th century in the Médoc region. By giving Michel Lynch’s name to his range of Bordeaux wines, Jean-Michel Cazes wanted to pay homage to this emblematic figure.
Bordeaux – France
In order to establish a sort of spiritual relationship by paying homage to Michel Lynch, Jean-Michel Cazes decided to give the name of this pioneer to his new range of Bordeaux wines towards the end of the 1980s.
Michel Lynch wines are the fruit of one man’s passion. Jean-Michel Cazes, owner of Lynch-Bages, and head of a family group which has been growing for many years in the area of wine and gastronomy (Château Lynch-Bages , Château Ormes de Pez , Château Villa Bel-Air , Relais & Châteaux Cordeillan-Bages , Restaurant Le Chapon Fin , Bordeaux Saveurs , L’Ostal Cazes …).
“Our ambition with Michel Lynch is to offer a selection of wines which reflect the diversity and richness of the Bordeaux terroirs.
These are wines for the wine lover who does not want to wait to drink a wine which expresses not only the delicacy and richness of Bordeaux wines, but also the best terroirs and the best of the vintage. Michel Lynch today personifies both tradition and the modern style of Bordeaux wines – elegant, bold and accessible. These are wines that give pleasure and are for sharing without affectation and in a convivial atmosphere!”
